Nutrition and adequate fluid intake are essential for health and well-being. For the older population, adequate food and drink can aid recovery from illness, surgery, and wounds. Good nutrition also helps older adults remain independent and strong and can reduce or prevent hospitalization. Nutrition is about a eating a healthy, balanced diet so that the body gets the nutrients it needs to sustain life. Many older patients do not have adequate nutrition or fluid intake. The role of the aide is to monitor patients for signs of nutritional issues and ensure that they have enough to eat and drink.
