Elimination is the regulation, control, and removal of by-products and wastes from the body, including urine and feces. There can be issues with elimination, such as incontinence, constipation, or diarrhea. These can all lead to serious complications for the home health patient. Toileting is the act of urinating or eliminating feces. There are various methods of toileting, which include using a toilet, bedside commode, bedpan, urinal, or catheter. Knowing when and how to safely toilet a patient with one of these methods is important for the patient’s safety.
